Aluminum density is 2.7g/cm³, open circuit potential: approximately -1.05V, current efficiency greater than 70%, ΔE=0.25V. Typically used in waters with resistivity less than 150Ω·m, aluminum anodes are generally not used in soil.

I. Basic Principles of Aluminum Anodes

  1. Electrochemical Characteristics
    Aluminum anodes are core materials for corrosion protection through the Sacrificial Anode Cathodic Protection (SACP) method. Their standard electrode potential is -1.66V (vs SHE), enabling spontaneous current circuit formation in electrolytes like seawater, thereby prioritizing corrosion to protect base materials such as steel.

  2. Alloy Design
    Pure aluminum easily forms a dense oxide film leading to passivation. In practice, ternary alloys like aluminum-zinc-indium (Al-Zn-In) or aluminum-zinc-mercury (Al-Zn-Hg) are used:

    • Zinc (5%): Reduces polarization potential

    • Indium/Mercury (0.02%-0.05%): Disrupts oxide film continuity
